Rising Tide: Art and Environment in Oceania

This exhibition designed as part of Smith-Gordon Design opened in August 2023 at the National Museum of Scotland. It takes visitors on an important journey of reflection and action. While Oceania may be far away from Scotland, the issues of rising sea levels and plastic pollution are global and their effects are also felt here in the UK. The exhibition presents a diverse range of responses from individuals in Oceania to climate threats that are relevant to our own lives through cased displays. Whilst the climate change threat is both real and immediate, this exhibition also provides a sense of optimism for the future. Part of the exhibition features a large complex artist immersive installation by George Nuku. My scope of services includes producing concept, scheme and detail design for the build aspects of the project. This service also includes integration of AV and lighting elements and producing case layouts and visuals. My scope extends to producing tender build packages and on-site meetings and troubleshooting. Graphics were produced with the NMS internal team.

Festival Theatre Foyers

This interior was designed as part of Smith-Gordon Design and opened in February 2024 at the Festival Theatre Edinburgh. The client wanted to upgrade the existing foyer spaces with the aim of creating more inviting and relaxing environments for audiences before and during performances.. The design was to create more spaces to dwell, relax and socialise in. My scope of services included producing concept, scheme and detail design for the spacial planning, furniture spec, new paint decoration and new signage. This was achieved working with the client team and audience feedback to create more dramatic and anticipatory spaces that would excite audiences. The theatre works heavily with dementia groups, so improved accessibility was important in the design solution. A number of different seating configurations created smaller more intimate spaces within a large volume and these created more choice for audiences. Flexibility was also very important to move items around for events.

Beyond the Little Black Dress

My scope of services included design services and design management following the stages of scheme and detailed design; tender to build (on and off site), fit out, cost planning, CDM Principal Designer duties and final acceptance by National Museums Scotland. Graphics was produced with the NMS internal team.
